Here is a quick overview of the basic process:

Step 1: Keyword Research

Every SEO campaign starts with research. It would help if you decided which keywords you want to rank for in the first place.

Keywords are the words and phrases that users type into Google to find what they are looking for.

By doing keyword research, you can find popular keywords related to your business that will attract your target audience.

Through research, you can find keywords that will send targeted traffic to your site and have enough search volume to be worth your efforts. Google’s Keyword Planner is one example of a keyword research tool.

Keyword Planner has many limitations. First, because it’s designed for Google Ads users, it does not provide much data on long-tail or low-volume keywords. Generally, one of the paid research tools will give you better information. Second, I use a tool called aHrefs.

Once you have decided on which keywords to go after, you can start the next step.

Step 2: Content Creation & On-Page Optimization

The second step is to create the content you want to rank for a specific search. Start this effort by doing a quick Google search to see what content is currently ranking for the keywords you are targeting.

You will often find that the type of content showing up on Google is different from what you initially expected. Take notes on what makes those pages suitable and areas where you think you can create something better or different.

Do your best to create content of higher quality than what is currently ranking. Higher quality content attracts more people, receives more links from other websites, and has a better chance of ranking higher in the search engines.

In addition to creating the best content you can, you must also optimize your content by including keywords from your keyword research.

Two areas where your top keywords are super important are your article’s Title Tag and Meta Description. These tags tell search engines what your web page is about.

You can optimize your title tag and meta description by making sure that you include your chosen keywords.

It is also essential to use your keywords in your article at least once. Please write your content naturally and then look over it to ensure the keywords you are targeting are included at least once on the page. Just don’t overdo it. Search engines don’t like keyword stuffing.

Step 3: Off-Page Promotion and Link Building

After you’ve published your article and optimized it, the next step is to promote that content so that people find out about it.

One of the most critical ranking factors that search engines use to determine a website’s quality and content position in search is the number of inbound links to the site from other websites.

A link from another website to your is a measurable vote of confidence. It tells search engines that your site is an authority and contains quality content.

Getting links to your website shows search engines that you’re trustworthy and creating content that people find valuable. But, not all links are trusted the same.

A link from an authoritative website like ABC, Fox News, or CBS would be worth more than a link from a small blog. News sites and national media outlets get a lot of traffic and thousands of links from other sites, so they have more authority, and links carry more weight.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be well known to start getting links to your site. There are countless options for getting links.

Link-building options include blogger outreach, getting press coverage, or reverse engineering competitor backlinks. Just realize that these options take time and effort.
