Should Lenders, Investors, and Real Estate Agents Invest in Marketing During a Down Economy?

Let’s face it, the economy is in a slump and it’s going to take time to come back. But, just as with the Great Recession in 2008, savvy investors realize that now is the right time to push forward.

How can you take advantage of the opportunities to come?

One way is to up your online game by improving your search presence. There are many ways to market your mortgage, investment, or real estate business, but using SEO to rank highly in search engines, like Google and Bing, is one of the most powerful, highest ROI ways to get more leads and sales.

So what is SEO, why is it important, and how does it work? In this article, we’ll be breaking down everything.

What is SEO?

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process of optimizing your website to get targeted traffic by ranking in search engines. If you can rank highly in search engines for your target searches, you’ll be able to get more clicks. And more clicks, particularly the right clicks, get you more business.

Studies show that the majority of all search engine clicks go to the websites ranking in the first few positions:

This study shows that 30% of searchers tend to click on the first search result on the page, 15% click on the second result, and around 10% click on the third result.

The click-rate decreases significantly after position 3, with positions 4-10 getting only around 2-5% of clicks.

Marketers need to focus not only on getting more traffic from search engines, but also getting traffic that’s interested in your content, products, or services. We’ll cover exactly how to do just that!

How SEO Works

How can you optimize your website to get high-value, targeted traffic from the search engines?

Here is a quick overview of the basic process:

Step 1: Keyword Research

Every SEO campaign starts with research. You must decide which keywords you want to rank for in the first place.

Keywords are the words and phrases that users type into Google to find what they are looking for.

By doing keyword research, you can find popular keywords that are related to your business that will attract your target audience.

Through research you can find keywords that will send targeted traffic to your site and also have enough search volume to be worth your efforts. Google’s Keyword Planner is one example of a keyword research tool.

Keyword Planner has many limitations. Because it’s designed for Google Ads users, it does not provide much data on long-tail keywords or low-volume keywords. Generally, one of the paid research tool will give you better information. I use a tool called aHrefs.

Once you have decided on which keywords to go after, you can start the next step.

Step 2: Content Creation & On-Page Optimization

The second step is to create the content that you want to rank for a specific search. Start this effort by doing a quick Google search to see what content is currently ranking for the keywords you are targeting.

Often you will find that the type of content showing up in Google is different than you originally expected. Take notes on what makes those pages good and areas where you think you can create something better or different.

Do your best to create content that is of higher quality than what is currently ranking. Higher quality content attracts more people, receives more links from other websites, and has a better chance of ranking higher in the search engines.

In addition to creating the best content you can, you must also optimize your content by including keywords in it from your keyword research.

Two areas where your top keywords are super important are your article’s Title Tag and Meta Description. These tags tell search engines what your web page is about.

You can optimize your title tag and meta description by making sure that you include your chosen keywords.

It is also important to use your keywords in your article at least once. Write your content naturally and then look over it to make sure the keywords you are targeting are included at least once on the page. Just don’t over-do it. Search engines don’t like keyword stuffing.

Step 3: Off-Page Promotion and Link Building

After you’ve published your article and optimized it, the next step is to promote that content so that people find out about it.

One of the most important ranking factors that search engines use to determine a website’s quality – and their content’s position in search – is the number of inbound links to the site from other websites.

A link from another website to your is a measurable vote of confidence. It tells search engines that your site is an authority and contains quality content.

Getting links to your website shows search engines that you’re trustworthy and that you’re creating content that people find valuable. But, not all links are counted the same.

A link from an authoritative website like ABC, Fox News, or CBS would be worth a lot more than a link from a small blog. News sites and national media outlets get a lot of traffic and thousands of links from other sites, so they have more authority, and links from these sites carry more weight.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be well known to start getting links to your site. There are countless options for getting links.

Some link building options include blogger outreach, getting press coverage, or reverse engineering competitor backlinks. Just realize that these options take time and effort.

Supercharge Your SEO Marketing Effort

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could somehow get exposure across dozens of local news and national media sites to tap into their audience AND get the backlinks you need to your website?

This kind of exposure is often only available to big businesses, who commit large advertising budgets. Corporate communication directors spend years cultivating relationships to gain this kind of access. But, now it’s your turn.

Through a special media relationship, I have bulk purchased syndication for 25 magazine quality articles that will distribute to 129 outlets. In most cases, this result in about 90 publications of an article, with exposure to massive audiences, and permanent backlinks from these authority websites.

These are not press releases, which are not permanent, and cannot contain magazine-style content. These are feature articles.

Here’s how it works.

You tell me the search terms (up to 3) that you need help ranking for (local search terms work best). I will use my professional tools to identify the best searches related to your topic.

Next, I will commission a writer to write a 1,500+ word article on your topic that contains links to your home page and two article pages. After a strict quality review, the article will be sent to 130+ syndication outlets. My guarantee is that the article I syndicate on your behalf will be published on a minimum of 75 sites.
